The following statement fits on Zia Mohyeddin a legendary actor, director, producer, television broadcaster and a narrator with a voice which make the audience “sshhh”.
Zia Mohyeddin appeared both in Pakistani Cenima and in British Cenima. He was born in Faisalabad Pakistan on 20, june, 1933 but he was trained in London in Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts for three year from 1953 to 1956.
He started as an actor in “Day’s Journey Into Night” and “Julius Caesar” both of which were stage dramas. After these two stage dramas he got into West End theatre and appeared in a 1960 movie “A Passage To India” which is based on growing influence of the Indian independence movement in 1920s. The movie was basically made from a novel A Passage to India which was written in 1924 and was selected as one of the 100 great works of 20th century English Litrature.
In 1962 Zia mohyeddin appeared in super hit, historical movie Lawrence of Arabia based on the life of T. E. Lawrence. In this movie Zia mohyeddin played the role of an arab guide named Tafas who is shot for drinking water from the wrong well by omar sharif.
After the “lawrence of Arabia” he made many television and film appearences and started as Dr.Aziz in BBC’s television version of The Lawerance of Arabia.
After his return to Pakistan in late 1960’s he founded and ran PIA arts and dance academy. In 1970’s he hoasted a Pakistani show named as “Zia mohyeddin kay mehman”.
Then he started a Pakistan television show Kasoti on ptv in 1998 which was famous all over Pakistan. The show basically consisted two teams. One team guesses a name,place or thing and the other team had to find that name, place or thing.
Since Zia Mohyeddin has traveled the world giving prose recitations to urdu poetry so he is considered the greatest reader of the urdu literature. He is also known for reading English letters and English litrature.
Uptill now even with growing age Zia is still active among Pakistani media as a speaker and hosts several TV programes both for National and Private Channels. He is also involved in narrating some abstract short films and many of the tv commercials.
